I find that some people have nothing else better to do than harass and hate on other people. Well I've been living in my neighborhood for the past 7 years before there was even an HOA. I always got along with all of my neighbors until I moved down the street into a bigger home. Once I moved then the drama began, my neighbor across the street started filing complaints for everything! The trash bin was out too long, I have too many visitors, I parked wrong, I have a home gym and the list goes on. Instead of him coming over and speaking to me in a neighborly fashion he has been filing Petty complaints for everything!!!
This has bothered me all week long to the point that I find it hard to sleep at night! Yet as a good neighbor I don't report him when his huge donkey dog poops all over the neighborhood, or when he comes out in less than appealing shorts, or works with his garage door open! I'm truly fed up now and it's gotten so bad that I have to go in front of the HOA board. He sits on the board and it makes me sick to my stomach that I even have to look at him. I feel like a prisoner in my own home and he is the warden that is always watching what I do. HOA's take away your freedom and make others feel limited in their own home.

Juicing 101

Juicing is a great way to get all your fruit and veggie servings in for the day. I make a morning juice blend and an evening juice blend. I normally try to drink my juice before I eat breakfast and before I eat dinner along with my vitamins and supplements. On Saturday morning I go to the Mexican market near my house, where they offer a large variety of fruits and vegetables for a fraction of the cost of the supermarkets. These are locally grown by the farmers and picked to be sold fresh at the market. I bought 3lbs of carrots, 2 lbs of apples, 6 lbs of oranges, 2 lbs of beets, fresh parsley, strawberries, blackberries, cherries, bananas, ginger, sugar cane, 2lbs.s of bell peppers, 3 lbs of pears and garlic and only paid $35.
    My morning juice contains:
   (option 1)
   1/2 pack blueberries
   1 beet
   2 carrots
   2 apples
   1/2 pack of cranberries
which is taken with CoQ10, B complex vitamins, Calcium and D vitamins
   (option 2)
   3 oranges
   1/2 pack strawberries
   1/2 pack blackberries
    2 pears
which I take with the same supplements above and a multi pack of vitamins

   My evening juice contains:
   5 carrots
   4 apples
    ginger
    parsley
which I take with concentrated fruits and vegetable supplement, L-Arginine, Omega 3 and Iron

I feel so much cleaner and healthier when I juice! You all know what I'm talking about. The red tide, the visitor, PMS all of the above. The last thing on our mind are diet plans and work outs. The bottom line is that when my visitor comes, I feel like putting my head under my blanket and devouring an entire box of chocolates. Then when I come out from under the blanket I want to bite everyone's head off! Don't touch me, hold me, leave me, I hate you, I love you. It's one big one roller coaster of emotions.
For the new year I decided to handle things differently to tame my emotions and control my PMS. Now when my visitor comes, I try to eat healthy and so my exercise. It actually worked.
1 week prior to my period
1. load up on fruits and veggies.
2. eat lots of fiber and drink tons of water.
3. Take Primrose supplement
4. Take some St. Johns Warts
5. Take salt out of my diet.
Week of my period
1. load up on Vitamin D with Calcium and Magnesium
2. Take a B vitamin complex
3. Take a 30 minute afternoon nap
4. Intense stretching in the morning and evening.
5. Pamper myself.
These 10 steps will boost your energy, enhance your mood, and practically rid your PMS. The specific vitamins above help boost energy and improve mood. Stretching during your period is best because it is when your joints are the looses. Stretching also relaxes you. Avoid salt because it will only make bloating worse. Please don't forget to pamper yourself. Take nice showers, shave, paint your nails, get a pedicure, get a massage. Do whatever it takes to make you feel beautiful.

Health Fair

It was a wonderful day to enjoy the park and participate in the health fair. It was nice to meet new people, greet current and past clients and network with other businesses. It took my daughters and my mother with me to help out at our booth. Plenty of free samples and goodies were passed out. I enjoyed weighing and measuring all the people that came to our booth. Many were afraid of getting on the scale or having the measuring tape wrapped around their waist. Feeling good is not always a good indicator of what is going on within. I know some people ( not going to call names) who are petrified about seeing the doctor or the dentist. They think that no news is good news. Well last month this (person) got the courage up to go and visit the doctor for the first time in 7 years! To her dismay, she found out that she had tons of ailments that could have been prevented. The doctor informed her that she had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes!!!
She was a walking time bomb and did not even know it. This scared her so much that she has decided to change her lifestyle and make regular visits to her doctor. Her new routine includes a training regime of 3 days a week, dietary changes, meditation techniques and of course taking her medication.
When I asked her why she waited so long to visit the doctor she told me that she did not have medical insurance, she was scared and no one in her family ever made a big deal about going to the doctor. It's so sad but true but I get these responses often especially from my Latinas an African American women. If you are reading this blog and can relate to this woman's experience please make it a point to visit the doctor. If you do not have medical insurance, get some. It's not as expensive as you think. Sometimes it's better to invest in your health now than having to pay for treatments and hospitalization later! You can also visit health fairs and free clinics in your area!

Come visit me tomorrow at coral reef park to get weighed, measured and get a fitness analysis. Baptist hospital and Jackson hospital will also be there offering health check ups.
The health fair begins at 12 pm and ends at 5 pm.
Hope to see you there!

Put those nuts in my mouth!

It's not what you think, so get your mind out of the gutter! Nuts are a great snack if you are trying to lose weight and stay energized. Often times, when we are trying to eat right and stick to a healthy diet regimen, we tend to forget to have our snacks in between meals. Nuts are easy to snack on because they provide different types of proteins and healthy fats. These specific fats help lower LDL (bad cholesterol) and not to mention they are just plain yummy! By combining a variety of nuts into your diet you will be adding many different vitamins and minerals as well as protecting cells with their antioxidant power. Nuts are perfect for snacking because they curb your appetite since they have high fiber and protein content. Since nuts have concentrated plant proteins it makes it healthier than eating animal protein and it makes for a great substitute for some meats. Protein requires more energy to burn so by eating nuts you will actually be burning more calories. Nuts also contain important amino acids such as Arginine and Tryptophan. Tryptophan helps stimulate seratonin levels in the brain which helps fight depression and promote a more relaxed mood. Arginine has many benefits such as helping reduce blood pressure levels, releasing more hormones in the pituatary gland and boosting the immune system. My favorite nuts are pistachio nuts and almonds. Both of which are loaded with vitamins and minerals that do my body good. I normally buy snack size packs to carry in my purse for when I'm out and about. I keep them at my desk while I am working at home. They prevent me from getting up and going to the refrigerator looking for snacks that may be loaded in sugars and saturated fats. The reason nuts are my snack of choice is because they curb my appetite and boost my internal energy. They also have a meaty and hardiness about them that make me feel full. So go ahead and put some nuts in your mouth and enjoy total bliss!By: Cheryl MullinCheck out this site about the benefits of nuts: http://www.nutrition-and-you.com

Bikini Boot Camp Fun!

Free digital slideshow created with Smilebox

"Gimme Some Sugar!"

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 185px; height: 124px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eAZAMt-zOgI/TVprDUMMyKI/AAAAAAAAAEE/Bp5eD2xPi7Q/s320/sugarcubes.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5573885193528068258" />
Gimme Some Sugar
February is the month of LOVE. Everyone is lovestruck. People get excited when Valentine’s Day rolls around because this seemingly gives them the courage to declare their love to a certain person. With love in the air, we dash to the store to purchase the blingest diamond jewelry, the most adorable teddy bear, the sweetest card, the sexist lingerie, or, MOST IMPORTANTLY, the sweetest and yummiest candy or cake, the kind that melts in your mouth and tastes, oh so, so good. But wait… What about all the sugar you are consuming? Ever wondered which sugar was the worse and the healthiest (if there is such a thing as good sugar)? Is brown sugar better than white sugar? Are artificial sweeteners the better alternative? Or are we just safer eliminating sugar completely out of our diet?
If you had to pick which sugar was better, which would you pick; brown or white? You may automatically pick brown sugar because you are probably thinking it is the unbleached version of the white sugar. Wrong. In fact, www.everydayhealth.com says that the brown sugar is worse than the white sugar. Shockingly enough, it is because molasses, which is a dark syrup produced from boiling down juice from sugar cane, is added to refined brown sugar. White sugar is the total opposite. Does that make white sugar better? Nope, in fact, it’s just as bad at brown sugar. White sugar is known to cause tooth decay and raise insulin levels in the blood which in turn increases fat storage with the end results being rapid weight gain. With that said, you are probably wondering how you can satisfy your sweet tooth if both brown and white sugar are on the black list. Let’s try the artificial sweeteners.
Artificial sweeteners rose to fame in attempt to find the healthiest alternative to table sugar. Splenda, Sweet-n-Low, Equal, and Nutrasweet, to name a few, are some of the well known artificial sweeteners on the market. Sucralose (Spelenda), saccharin (Sweet-n-Low), and aspartame (Equal and Nutrasweet) are three of the main ingredients in some artificial sweeteners. They claim to be a zero calorie form of sugar but after much research, it appears artificial sweeteners are a “healthier” alternative with some possible severe side effects. Some of the side effects include nausea, seizures, migraines, cancer, damage to metabolism, lowering body’s immune system, reproductive issues, and possible trigger for genital and/or oral break out such as herpes. Aspartame is the worse one of the three ingredients with saccharin being the less risky one and is favored by those who are diabetic.
Another form of sugar comes from a plant called sweetleaf or sugarleaf and this is what Stevia is created from. When Stevia first hit the market, it was highly favored by diabetics and people on a low carbohydrate diet. Stevia was known to cause some side effects including cancer, nausea, and headaches. However, it was later approved by the FDA in 2010.
So, which sugar is good for you? With all the side effects, one would find this a touch question to answer. As with any food, moderation is key in consummation. Eliminating added sugar and eating only the natural sugars from fruits and vegetables would be the ideal solution. One would think, right? Not necessarily the case. People who are physical active like bodybuilders, long-distance runners, or athletes benefit from sugar because it helps to increase their performance and avoid getting tired for longer periods of time. For the average person who is not active, sugar is NOT their best friend. That sounds easy enough. Why not join a sport, sign up for a 5k, or come work out with TYU to stay physically active ‘cause at the end of the day, after getting your grind on, you won’t have to feel guilty for asking your honey, “Gimme some sugar.”

My Favorite Foods! Boot camp has become the fitness happy hour for adults.Instead of spending hours in the gym waiting on equipment you don't know how to use, some find it easier to use little to no equipment in an open, friendly and motivating environment. Some adults are coming out to boot camps and dropping their gym memberships because it is more fun and they get better work outs. Boot Camps offer the instruction and assistance of personal trainers without the high gym fees.
Boot Camp exercises burn you maximum calories while maximizing your time. You can expect to burn from 600-1,000 calories in one hour of a boot camp session. This is more than you would burn in most other type workouts. Boot camp workouts are also better than gym workouts because they offer you less recovery time between exercises, so that you are constantly burning calories. The exercises normally cover the entire body while incorporating cardiovascular training as well as strength training. This is more than you can imagine to do for one hour in the gym. If you have limited time to exercise a boot camp work out is the most efficient programs around.
joining a boot camp not only builds you a better body but it builds, discipline, self esteem and confidence. With the motivation from the fitness trainers and your peers it makes it easier to stick to an exercise regimen. Boot Camp should be part of your healthy lifestyle change, classes are affordable and convenient for those who have a budget and limited time. One of the best benefits about boot camp is that you learn to use little to no equipment anywhere.

Boot Camp Benefits:
1. Affordable (no gym memberships or trainer fees)
2. Convenient (before or after work hours)
3. Burns maximum amount of calories in 1 hour (600-1,000 per hour)
3. Motivational (trainers and peers to encourage you)
4. Educational (learn new exercises from certified trainers)
5. Fun (open friendly atmosphere)

Big Butt, Less Fat!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_G7W5IMNSv_4/TL57PstoC1I/AAAAAAAAAC4/59WaSzNhkKI/s320/0909-model-butt.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5529992902088330066" />

I always hear women complain about how large their butts are! What they don't realize is that they are sitting on a large gold mine. The Gluteus Maximus (butt) is the largest muscle in the human body. Knowing that muscle burns more calories, it is essential to incorporate butt building exercises into your work-out routine. This is because bigger and stronger muscles require more energy in the form of calories, ultimately building muscle helps to manage weight loss and helps the body to burn excess fat. So, the bigger the butt, the better! Many of my clients are sometimes concerned that if they were to start any type of strength training program or weight routines for women, that they would build too much muscle and they would look overly masculine. Women don't produce the amount of testosterone, like our male counterparts and therefore our muscles cannot bulk up like men.
During my periods of inactivity, I notice that my rear end began to "droop". No one wants a butt that flaps or jiggles too much! So, I encourage every woman I know to pump up their butt! Yes, it's true that some women could possibly gain a little weight on a women’s muscle building exercise plan, because muscle mass does weigh more than fat, but the chances of us actually losing weight are far higher. The more muscle we gain the more fat we lose. The body has the ability to lose weight and keep that weight off and that is controlled by our metabolic rate, or metabolism. More muscle also, means a higher metabolic rate (which is the little furnace inside our bodies that allows us to burn fat). Having a high metabolic rate allows us to burn more energy and consume more energy.
My Tips to Maximize your booty!
1. Eat small healthy meals every 2-3 hours
2. Drink Plenty of Water
3. Take Protein supplement after work out.
4. Exercises:*10 minute uphill climb on treadmill (highest incline) low to medium speed
*10 minute stair climber medium- heavy resistance
*10 minute bike with heavy resistance (intervals of 1 minute low resistance for
recovery)
*3 sets of 12 squats (heavy weights) 1min 30sec rest between each set
*3 sets of 25 fire hydrants
*3 sets of 25 step ups
*3 sets of 15 dead lifts

"Belly Fat"

Belly fat is a nuisance to most of us. It is deemed as one of the most difficult areas to get rid of. Although many are under the assumption that crunches will rid of us of this annoying area, it is not necessarily the case. Crunches only help to strengthen the abdominal muscles which in turn will strengthen the opposing muscles of the back. Also, there is no such thing as "spot reduction". Simply focusing on only working on the abdominal muscles will not cut it. In order to get rid of that annoying belly fat, we must eat properly, engage in cardiovascular activities that last between 30 minutes to 1 hour and doing abdominal exercises.
As most of you know I recently had a baby and I'm currently struggling to lose the excess body fat. I know that I'm not only trying to lose the belly fat for superficial reasons but for health purposes as well. Belly fat can lead to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and a number of other conditions. Knowing that type 2 diabetes runs in my family it is essential that I get my weight and my diet under control. Here are a couple of things that I've incorporated into my daily life this past week to get rid of my belly fat:
1. eating small nutritious meals
2. engaging in cardiovascular activity 5 days a week for 1 hour
.treadmill incline (10) for 10 minutes
.stair climber 10 minutes with light weights
.Bike 10 minutes (intervals of fast and slow speed)
.Elliptical 10 minutes (medium resistance)
.15 minutes of abs
.5 minutes deep stretching
3. taking my vitamin supplements
4. increasing my fiber intake

"I need to lose weight!"

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 218px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_G7W5IMNSv_4/TLZwXUwy3JI/AAAAAAAAACQ/h13X6V7KdsQ/s320/bodyfat.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5527729138656533650" />

Time and time again, I've heard clients say, " I need to lose weight!" Losing weight is not what needs to happen, instead we need to lose fat. The misconception that weight loss is equivalent to fat loss is typical. Weight loss could come from the loss of muscle, water or fat. Most of us really want "fat loss" accompanied with firm lean muscles. We find fat loss daunting because we don't understand what fat really is. Fat is produced by the body when an excess intake of calories in the form of food or drink occurs. When the diet provides the body with more calories than it needs for general maintenance and its current level of physical activity, this excess energy is stored in the form of body fat. So the belief that sitting in saunas or steam rooms for hours helps us lose weight,is not the case, it's just water loss. We must raise our metabolic rate by exercising and regulating our diet in order to burn stored body fat.
If you want to effectively lose fat, follow these rules:
1. EAT small healthy meals every 3 hours
2. Cardio exercise for 30 minutes everyday at low- moderate intensity
3. Lift weights for 30 minutes 3 days a week
4. Sleep 8-9 hours a night
5. Burn more calories than you consume (the more exercise you do the more calories you burn)
6.Focus

I don't have time!

In all the years that I’ve been training clients the most common excuse for not keeping up with a fitness regimen was, “I don’t have time”. I always tried to encourage them to make time for a healthier lifestyle that promoted eating right and exercising. How could they not have time for exercise? I did not understand my clients way of thinking, when they would say, “I don’t have time”. Now, I get it! Being extremely busy with life and all of its demands can lead you astray from your personal needs.
Women especially are prone to neglecting their personal needs because we are busy doing everything all the time. We manage our family, home and business first and we normally put ourselves on the back burner. I can see where my clients are coming from and it has allowed me to gain some insight on how this affects me physically and mentally. I’ve noticed that since my new baby has arrived, I’ve been skipping meals and feeling very sluggish. Each day I am busy rushing kids off to school, caring for the baby, cleaning and working before I realize that I am STARVING! I wake up at 6:30 a.m. and normally don’t eat until 12 p.m. By the afternoon my sugar levels are so low from starvation that I reach for chocolate chip cookies and milk. Eating cookies instead of something healthy was not entirely because I did not have time but it was also an emotional response. Most of the time I don’t mean to starve myself but I’ve become so involved with the task at hand that I completely lose my appetite.
I made a vow that I would change my lifestyle habits and practice what I preach. No more making the excuse that “I don’t have time”! I realize that if I keep reaching for chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon, skipping meals and not working out, soon I’ll be 50 lbs heavier wondering what happened. I’ve seen it too many times and know that it can easily happen if I don’t do something about it now.

I will report how I am doing everyday on this blog. Give me your feedback!

Sincerely,
SGT. While turkey often receives the blame, studies suggest that carbohydrate-rich meals may cause sleepiness by increasing the number of tryptophans in the brain. It is the unusually large, multi-coursed, carbohydrate-rich meal most people eat on Thanksgiving that is more likely the cause of the drowsiness. So just eat the turkey and the vegetables and you may not feel drowsy. What, no stuffing, potatoes, rolls, or pie?
2. An average Thanksgiving dinner contains 3000 calories. You will need to walk 40 miles, just to burn off one meal!
3. You eat at least 229 grams of fat in 1 Thanksgiving meal. I am not sure how a meal could contain 229 grams of fat, but if you think about gravy and whipped cream and second helpings, you can begin to imagine the fat content of the foods. Just to remind you, the RDI for fat is 20 to 35 percent of total calories eaten, which amounts to 44 to 77 grams of fat a day if you eat 2,000 calories a day.
4. How many hours would a 160-pound person need to run, at a moderate pace, to burn off the average Thanksgiving Day meal? 4 Hours! Just a mere four hours! Do you think you can fit that into your day? So of course, I caution you to eat wisely as well as to exercise on Thanksgiving. Maybe not for four hours, but try to fit in some form of exercise.

Kids Work Out by Kayla

Children follow and mimick parents behaviors, make sure that your child mimicks your good habits.
